Admissions Timeline

The Brown School accepts one cohort each year for admission for the fall semester only.  Both Master’s and Doctoral program applications open annually on September 1.

Master’s Application Deadlines

Applications are accepted on a modified rolling basis; however, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early.

  • December 1&²Ô²ú²õ±è;–&²Ô²ú²õ±è;Early Review Deadline: Applications completed by this date will receive first consideration for admission and scholarship. Early review decisions will be released no later than February 1.
  • March 1&²Ô²ú²õ±è;–&²Ô²ú²õ±è;Priority Review Deadline & Final Deadline for International Applicants: Applications completed by this date will receive priority consideration for admission and scholarship. This is also the final deadline for international applicants. Decisions are released within 4 – 8 weeks of application completion.
  • After March 1 â€“ Applications from domestic applicants only will be considered on a space-available basis until the final deadline of June 1.
  • WashU 3-2 applicants: Applications should be submitted early in the spring semester of junior year, between January 1 and March 1.

Admission Offer Response: Admitted ºÚÁÏÉçs must respond to their offer of admission by May 1 (or within 2 weeks if admitted in late April or after).

A non-refundable $200 tuition deposit is required to accept admission and confirm intent to enroll.

Some scholarship offers may require accelerated responses from candidates.

International ºÚÁÏÉçs must be prepared to immediately submit the to complete their intent to enroll.

Doctoral Application Deadlines

December 1 â€“ Doctoral program applications must be fully complete by this date, including all required materials and letters of recommendation. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Admission decisions will be released by early March.

Admission Offer Response: Admitted ºÚÁÏÉçs must respond to their offer of admission no later than April 15.

Federal Student Loan & FAFSA Deadlines

Domestic ºÚÁÏÉçs who are U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or  wishing to be considered for Federal Financial Aid (work-study and ºÚÁÏÉç loans) should complete the  (FAFSA) for the appropriate academic year as soon as it is available.

  • Students will need their most recent tax return, Federal Student Aid ID, and WashU’s school code of 002520. 
  • Graduate ºÚÁÏÉçs file as independents and no parent application is needed.

Once a ºÚÁÏÉç’s FAFSA has been processed and a ºÚÁÏÉç has confirmed their intent to enroll, the Brown School Office of Student Financial Services will provide a financial aid package, which will include loans and any federal work-study. Please note: Your FAFSA results will NOT impact your Brown School Scholarship award.  Find additional information about the federal financial aid process.

Admitted Student Important Deadlines

  • May 1 – Proficiency exam registration begins
  • May 15 – Last day for international ºÚÁÏÉçs to submit financial documentation to OISS
  • May 18 – Proficiency exams begin
  • June 1 – Additional WashU new ºÚÁÏÉç tasks launch in Workday
  • June 28 – Proficiency exams end
  • July 1
    • Deadline to submit a deferral request
    • Additional WashU new ºÚÁÏÉç tasks launch in Workday
  • July 2 – Deadline for Saved Schedule Approval from Academic Advisor
  • July 7 – Course registration begins for full-time ºÚÁÏÉçs
    • 8:30 am CDT – PhD and MSW Advanced Standing
    • 12:30 pm CDT – All remaining ºÚÁÏÉçs
  • July 16 – First day for international ºÚÁÏÉç arrival for ºÚÁÏÉçs on a new F1 visa
  • July 31 – Deadline to submit final official transcript
  • August 1 – Last day for visa appointments to take place to ensure timely international ºÚÁÏÉç arrival
  • August 3 – Bridge to Brown Course begins for Advanced Standing MSW Students
  • August 15 – Last day for international ºÚÁÏÉç arrival for ºÚÁÏÉçs on a new F1 visa
  • August 16 – Incoming Student Orientation events
    • OISE Graduate Student Orientation & Mixer
    • WashU Graduate Student Orientation & Resource Fair
  • August 18 – Brown School International Student Orientation
  • August 19 – 20 – Brown School Full-time Student Orientation
  • August 24 – First day of classes
